SUMMARY:Murphy's Law
DESCRIPTION:"I thought one day when I was contemplating directing an experimental play\, why not give my actors and myself a chance to perform exactly what people think the entertainment industry is all about? Why not give the audience a chance to look behind-the-scenes and into the lives of the kind of people they think are in show-business?" - Noel Manasseh People have their pre-conceived notions about entertainers & the entertainment business. “Murphy’s Law” is a collage of scenes that explains why these pre conceived notions came about in the first place. The play is a satire on the entertainment industry and about eccentric characters who are totally star-struck\, self-centered and pre-occupied with their dreams & careers; scrambling for fame and the flashbulb in the movie-theatre race. ABOUT THE DIRECTOR Noel Manasseh studied acting at the Film & TV Institute of India\, Pune and has lived in Mumbai since 2007. He is actively involved with theatre and has been in plays like Chugaddham Symphony: a Brecht musical and 2 Blind Mice: an adaptation of Samuel Beckett’s legendary play “Waiting for Godot” both directed by Chandan Roy Sanyal. Actors Anonymous is his theatre group & Murphy’s Law is their second play after POP! Goes the Weasel which has been on the road for a year now\, with performances in Goa & Mumbai.

SUMMARY:The Dreams of Tipu Sultan
DESCRIPTION:Tipu Sultan has continued to dominate the imagination for over two centuries\, as the endless flow of scholarly works\, ballads\, plays and novels testifies. What is less well known is that he secretly maintained a record of his dreams. The Dreams of Tipu Sultan examines the inner life of this warrior\, political visionary\, and dreamer; a fascinating look at The Tiger of Mysore from a different perspective: that of Independent India. “I liked the production very much indeed. Most people were deeply moved. Thanks again for a wonderful Tipu.” – Girish Karnad Playwright: Girish Karnad | Director: Arundhati Raja | Company: Jagriti

SUMMARY:The Golden Dragon
DESCRIPTION:The Golden Dragon\, Germany's most successful new play\, is the second in the 6-play Jagriti Season that started in December and runs through to June 2012. The prolific German playwright\, Roland Schimmelpfennig and his English translator\, David Tushingham have come up with another stage success that won the Olivier Award for the Actors Touring Company at the Edinburgh Festival in August 2011. The Golden Dragon is a tragicomic tale of globalization\, set in your local Thai/Chinese/Vietnamese takeaway. ‘A glorious interconnectedness of life’s rich tapestry and instant karma that gives genuine food for thought\, which travels everywhere and nowhere in a deconstructed soap opera about modern migration.’ (The Herald) Through fun moments\, this theatrical fable deals with larger socio-economic issues of modern life and migration\, whisking you from your local takeaway to East Asia and back\, revealing what really goes into that bowl of spicy soup. Says director Ramin Gray of the company’s shows at Jagriti in Bangalore\, “Like looking down a telescope from the wrong end\, I hope you will get a new\, strange and wonderful perspective on how you see us Europeans looking out at the world.” Performed by the award winning ATC\, London. Presented by Jagriti and The British Council and supported by The Goethe Institut. Cast: David Beames\, Adam Best\, Ann Firbank\, Kathryn O'Reilly\, Jack Tarlton. Director Ramin Gray All photographs taken by Stephen Cummiskey Show Timings: Tuesday to Saturday: 8:00pm Sunday: 3:00pm and 6:30pm No performance on Mondays. SUMMARY:Lysistrata
DESCRIPTION:Lysistrata - a play written by Aristophanes\, the father of comedy\, first produced in Greece in 411 BC! Lysistrata is a young woman who is tired of seeing the young men of her village go and die in 'useless wars all the time'. She gathers all the women of her village as well as those of neighbouring tribes and holds them to an oath - as long as the men keep on warring\, as long as women keep losing lovers and husbands and sons\, no woman in Greece will willingly have sex. What follows is a hilarious retelling of an age-old story - the war between the sexes. The men say that women don't understand war so they should merely stay home and tend to their husbands and the women say that if it's left to the men\, they'll have no husbands left. And so on... Adapted\, designed and directed by Jeff Teare (UK)\, Jagriti's production of Lysistrata uses earthy humour\, a neverending stream of double entendres and plenty of current\, topical Bengalooru references\, to make it's point - Make love\, not war. Adapted\, designed and directed by Jeff Teare with Deepika Arwind as Lysistrata and Arundhati Raja\, Rajyashree Dutt\, Sukhita Aiyar\, Raza Hussain\, Pritham Kumar\, Vinod Ravindran\, Kanchan Bhattacharyya and Ashiqa Salvan. Percussion by Djembe Ashok; Costumes by Sonali and Himanshu of Grasshopper Dec 2–18\, 2011 Tue-Sat: 8.00pm Sun: 3.00pm & 6.30pm Not suitable for persons below 16 years. Latecomers not allowed.
