Season 2014: A note from Arundhati Raja, Artistic Director

Season 2014, our fourth season of specially curated plays is not very far away. Having begun the year with a focus on new writing and devised work, I felt we should end the year with a different focus – productions of older or classical plays.

These plays rich in text and language, offer a creative director and cast, a world of exciting interpretations. It’s a multinational line up with a play each from Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and two from Bangalore. This year we bring you a veritable carnival of characters.

First come a “normal” man and a woman who decide to be an “open couple” but there’s nothing normal in this relationship. Then comes a myriad of disarming characters full of humour and pathos, taking us through the ups and downs of their everyday lives. A government inspector appears after this but is he really an inspector? The people of the town he wanders into, certainly think he is! The next is a group of characters in a seething satire written in the early sixties that will make you think it was written – well just today! We end with an honest thief that wends his way through life stealing but never telling a lie. And the upstanding stalwarts of society whom he meets? They never steal but how honest are they?

Come and watch these unforgettable characters. Become involved in their lives as you watch their story unfold in real time before you.Only theatre can do that for you!
