The Dreams of Tipu Sultan

May 4-20, 2012

Tipu Sultan has continued to dominate the imagination for over two centuries, as the endless flow of scholarly works, ballads, plays and novels testifies. What is less well known is that he secretly maintained a record of his dreams. The Dreams of Tipu Sultan examines the inner life of this warrior, political visionary, and dreamer; a fascinating look at The Tiger of Mysore from a different perspective: that of Independent India.

“To me the play portrays Tipu Sultan, the man. We see him not only as the warrior that he was but also as the statesman, the innovator and the father.” – Arundhati Raja

‘A finesse that one has come to associate with Arundhati Raja’s productions…gave Tipu the majesty and gentleness it demanded.’ – The Hindu (A review from 2004)
