The story of the Kabuliwala was written by Rabindranath Tagore towards the end of the nineteenth century, published in 1892. That was more than twenty years before he received the Nobel Award for Literature. It was a short story, merely fifteen minutes in narration. It went on to become one of the most loved, most translated and most cited of Tagore’s works in prose. The deep bonds developing spontaneously between a child and a grown-up stranger from two entirely different cultures is one of the strongest testaments of the goodness of humankind. The play Kabuliwala Calling is an original adaptation for the stage developed at Bangalore Little Theatre. The story is presented by the Kabuliwalas of Kolkata themselves. Historical details of the Afghan community are added to provide the context.Read More

EQUUS is the latin word for ‘Horse’. It is an english psychological drama written in 1973, based on a real incident. EQUUS revolves around the investigation of Alan’s upbringing, a 17-year-old boy, who in a night of ferocious passion ends up stabbing and blinding the eyes of 6 horses. The boy is being treated by a child psychiatrist, Martin Dysart, who is made to face his own demons during the process. He questions the concept of "Normalcy"" and the need of "Worship". With successive sessions, Dysart begins to envy Alan, whose life is entirely controlled by his passion, wherein it is learnt that Alan had religious, emotional and sexual attraction for horses. The re-imagining of this play delves into the concept of 'Shadow Self' as coined by Carl Jung, and makes extensive use of Shadow Theatre.Read More

Trigger Warning : The performance includes the themes of parental death. Viewer discretion is advised. The word "mother" feels so complete, and so full of comfort, in itself. But after her going away, what plagues one the most, is the word "repentance". This tale is a journey from that word mother to the word repentance. To be engulfed by repentance borne of a mother's absence, and in that living of repentance, to find one's mother back again.Read More
