A Terrorist Hanged is a theatre performance that deals with colonisation of the mind and vision through which the subaltern views the societal injustice. A village yokel, Jagannath whose thought process and actions are often obscure to common reason. Had he been judged or harassed less or even shown some empathy or attention, he would have had a very different story to tell. But when he clashes with Nando, a fellow villager of similar background, they mirror each other’s plight seen thrpough different angles. Whether it’s Manoroma’s affection or Nalini’s lust, Samar Das’ whiplashes or Nando’s call to agitate, Jagannath never rises to the occasion. Yet, in the end, he is tried as a revolutionary by the British court Coward as he was, why did Jagai finally accept the noose with a smile on his face?Read More

Edward Albee wrote The Zoo Story in 1958. Rejected by New York producers, the play premiered in West Berlin in 1959 and subsequently in the US in an Off-Broadway production in 1960. Since then,it has been a perennial favourite with theatre companies and has been performed throughout the world. Albee had always felt that Peter’s character was not etched enough and so, forty years later in 2004 he added an Act One in which we see Peter and his wife. So was born At Home At The Zoo.Read More

The Cockroach Collector is a dark and witty play woven around three people of a doomed household; the mother referred to as Ma and her two daughters, Alka and Mano. Mano is the cockroach collector. Amit, Alka's beau, tries his best to enter the fabric of the family by dealing with the mother's quirky ways and forcing himself into cockroach-friendly gestures that are very much against his own nature. As the mystery of why Mano collects cockroaches slowly unravels, Amit is bewildered at first and then aghast. On the face of it, this is a story of a seriously dysfunctional family. But it is also essentially the story of a dysfunctional world, where horrendous violence and inhuman acts can exist in the crevices of ordinary life.Read More
