Audiences will witness the splendour of Odissi dance when the noted Odissi dancer from Bengaluru, Madhulita Mohapatra & her acclaimed troupe, Nrityantar Dance Ensemble will bring to stage the magical beauty of the dance form as they present their two exciting dance productions.
Born & nurtured in the temples of Odisha, Odissi dance is known for its fluid grace, sculptural sensuality & deep spirituality. Over the centuries, the living tradition of Odissi has been perpetuated by the Maharis (devdasis from Odisha) and the Gotipuas (young boy dancers dressed as girls). With soft, lyrical & graceful movements, set to lilting tunes on the resonating beats of the mardala, complemented by the symphony of soulful vocals & melodious flute, this dance of lyrical beauty casts a spell on spectators, and transports everyone to the enchanted delight of spiritual ecstasy & divine bliss.
Counted among the leading Odissi dancers of the present younger generation, Madhulita Mohapatra has found a way to appeal to the millennials with her new age works in Odissi dance. A recipient of the prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for Odissi dance by the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi (New Delhi) & the Kempegowda Award and an ‘A’ grade artiste of National Doordarshan (DD National) & an empanelled artiste of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), she is rightfully applauded for her inventive choreographic skills and her adeptness to keep her audiences engaged with imaginative use of movements & space. She has extensively performed in India & overseas. Under her training, vision & supervision, young talented dancers of her acclaimed troupe, Nrityantar Dance Ensemble, work tirelessly to meet the highest standards of artistic display. Madhulita Mohapatra’s group choreographies with her Nrityantar Dance Ensemble, are always a visual delight.
The Nrityantar Dance Ensemble will present two dance productions. A dance ballet on the epic tale of Ramayana will be at 3:30 pm. At 7:30 pm, the Nrityantar Dance Ensemble will present their newest offering, a thematic dance presentation titled ‘Shoonya to Sufi’. With excerpts from the Upanishads and poetry of Mirza Ghalib, Amir Khusro, Mahapurusha Achyutananda Das, this dance presentation explores mystical philosophy of Sufism & the spiritual journey of the seeker, as he tries to search for the divine within & outside, similar to the views of Advaita Vedanta and unity & harmony of various faiths.
