Ramayana and Mahabharatha are among the greatest epics of Indian mythology. This episode has been taken from Ramayana. Poet Parthi Subba of Kumble near Kasragod, Kerala is a celebrated composer of this wonderful story in Yakshaga style. He is believed to have lived in about 1600 AD.
Lord Raama with his beloved wife and younger brother were in exile for 14 years. They were living in a forest. In the forest ‘Shurpanakha’, sister of demon king Ravana, was fascinated by the young and charming Laxmana and desired to marry him. She proposed to Laxamana after having a form of beautiful lady. After the denial by Laxamana she came in her original form and tried to cause them harm, being angry Laxamana cut her nose and ear with his sword.
